A boutique hotel & hostel, inspired by the history of the site on which it stands

Samba is a hotel & hostel located in Ahangama, a popular destination on the South Coast of Sri Lanka. We asked our clients to find out some history of the location and were informed by the locals that it was a former rice mill. Inspired by this fact, the name ‘Samba’ comes from a grain of rice endemic to Sri Lanka and South India and is easy to pronounce in most languages, making it ideal for international tourists. The ‘S’ is derived from a Sinhala S, with an added accent to honour the Sri Lankan roots of the land in an area that is rapidly developing to cater to tourism.

OUR ROLE:

Creative Strategy, Visual Identity, Naming

Inspired by the history of the former rice mill, we developed a playful rice pattern that featured across merchandise and collateral, as well as playing into aspects of the interior design with rice sacks for shade.

“”We felt very fortunate to have connected with the SNO team. They helped us with a brand concept that we could both connect to the history of our site, as well as our mission to celebrate local produce and talent. A flexible and creative partner, full of ideas and good energy... including much needed practical advice.”
